| I am extremely honored to participate today in this
EUCCK press conference and share my views with you, as a chairman
of the EUCCK Aerospace & Defense Committee.
First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the EUCCK
staff who has organized this event which aim is to develop the cooperation
between Europe and the Republic of Korea in the area of aerospace
and defense industry.
It is always worth discussing and sharing thoughts and opinions
on current issues in today¡¯s dynamic aerospace and defense environment
in Korea especially in front of such a distinguished audience and
I wish to thank you all for attending this briefing this morning.
It is also meaningful, that the theme chosen by the Aerospace and
Defense Committee for its first session is: ¡°The Emerging Needs
of closer industrial cooperation and more active trade between Korea
and EU in the 21st Century¡±.
In this regard, from the point of view of the committee, I would
like to briefly comment on the perspective of cooperation between
Korea and the European Aerospace and defense industry.
For previous decades, European Aerospace industries have developed
know-hows and advanced technologies which certainly match the ambitions
of their Korean counterparts: a cooperative approach in this field
can therefore only create a win-win situation in which both sides
will be able to jointly develop new capabilities, products and markets.
This committee is organized for the purpose of preserving, advancing
and enhancing the community of EU aerospace and defense industries
in Korea and for the advancement of their collective interest.
The committee shall as well engage in appropriate and effective
interface with senior Korean military and civilian management personnel,
with Government officers and industry representatives in order to
promote bilateral exchanges of information and nurture bilateral
industrial cooperation, all this with an aim to enhance the mutual
benefit for both regions.
To fulfill these activities, one of the tasks of our committee will
be to inform Korean entities on technological developments, new
trends in our industry, possible joint R&D projects, as well
as government industrial policies in Europe.
Our European member companies are ready to cooperate with Korea
in developing jointly new technologies to meet future competitive
requirements: European governments and defense institutes through
this committee will establish a renewed dialogue between Korea and
the EU to exchange ideas and experiences on new policy developments
as well as reform issues.
Today marks the public launch of our Aerospace and Defense Committee.
I hope that it will mark a new era in the relationships between
Korea and the EU in the field of Aerospace and Defense; we certainly
welcome with open arms all initiatives from our Korean counterparts
to develop this relationship in order to further consolidate the
EU-Korea cooperation for future prosperity.
Thank you very much for your attention.
